Community Wildfire Defense Grant

The Community Wildfire Defense Grant is a campaign aimed at reducing fire risk in the Moab Valley and empowering residents to make their properties more fire resilient.

In 2024, coalition of Moab organizations helmed by Rim to Rim Restoration and the Moab Valley Fire Department was awarded $5.2 million for this project, which focuses on the Mill and Pack creek corridors and the Matheson Wetlands.

A national program, the Community Wildfire Defense Grant helps communities plan for and reduce wildfire risk. The funding derives from a federal award of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, and is sub-awarded by the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands.

Do you own land near Mill or Pack creeks?

You may be eligible to have hazardous fire fuels removed from your property as part of the Community Wildfire Defense Grant.

Note that landowners are expected to conduct annual maintenance on their properties after fuels removal is completed.
